8 Great Free Themes for Online Portfolios

If you have spent much time looking at premium WordPress themes, you have undoubtedly noticed that there are a lot of premium portfolio themes.  Although I will be the first to admit that there are some great looking premium portfolio themes, I am well aware that not every person who wants to create an online portfolio can afford to purchase a premium theme.  This is especially true for people who are just getting started, because those are the times when every dollar really does count.

Because I wanted to make sure that everyone knows that there are great portfolio themes that are completely free, I decided to compile a list of the best ones from around the Internet.  It took awhile to track down the freebies (because the premium themes are marketed so aggressively), but I am quite pleased with the list of eight free portfolio themes that I have assembled.  So, without further ado, here are eight portfolio themes that won’t cost you a cent to legally download and use:

Sharpfolio: Regardless of what medium you want to showcase, Sharpfolio is a simple but elegant theme that focuses on what’s important: your work.

Portfolio WordPress Theme: Although it’s funky and busy, I think this portfolio theme could be a great match for the right kind of company or person.

f8 lite portfolio theme: This theme features a large showcase at the top, which is accented by smaller areas along the bottom of the page that also allow you to display your work.

Portfolio Press: This is another simple portfolio theme, which can be a good thing since it is your actual work that you want visitors to be focused on.

Linquist: Although it was partially inspired by the Sharpfolio theme, I think there is something about this lovely portfolio theme that actually makes me like it even more than the Sharpfolio theme.

JunkFolio: While the name doesn’t set the bar high, this is actually a very nice looking theme.  Following the trend of most other quality portfolio themes, it gets the job done quite well without being excessively flashy or over the top.

Fhi-zin: To be completely honest, if I was creating an online portfolio, I wouldn’t use this theme.  It simply doesn’t appeal to me or match my style.  However, I know that there are a lot of people who love using this theme for their online portfolio, so I felt that it would be unfair to leave it off of the list.

The notable features of this theme include valid AJAX, being search engine friendly and according to the theme description, Fhi-zin is also bandwidth friendly.

Album WordPress Theme: While Album WordPress could just as easily be used for a photo blog, because of the elegant way that it frames and features pictures, I think this would work quite well for an online photography portfolio.  While I wouldn’t recommend it for other portfolios (such as web design), I think you could make a great impression to potential clients interested in your photography services.  (Remember that like all the latest themes in the Revolution Two series, this theme is free; you just have to look for the small DOWNLOAD link at the bottom of the page.)
